| New Book from Course Technology PTR Reveals Corporate ... - Earthtimes (press release) Posted: 03 May 2010 10:28 AM PDT BOSTON, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Course Technology PTR, part of Cengage Learning and a leading publisher of professional, technical and reference materials, today announced the publication of The Relational Leader: A Revolutionary Framework to Engage Your Team by Frank McIntosh. The book teaches leaders and aspiring leaders how, through relationship-building, they can manage and motivate employees to produce their best work and effectively contribute to an organization's bottom line. McIntosh, an inductee of the Delaware Business Leaders Hall-of-Fame and a 36-year-veteran of Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, developed the model for relational leadership based on seven main attributes: fairness, character, trust, fun, celebration, attentiveness and purpose. This model stands in stark contrast to the "command and control" leadership model, which McIntosh believes many Gen-X and Gen-Y employees have begun to tune out. "We must adapt our thought process to have success in the twenty-first century," said McIntosh. "As Generation Y enters the workforce, they are looking to their managers to make them feel engaged and valued. By implementing a relational leadership model, leaders and managers can achieve this symbiotic relationship with their employees." The Relational Leader teaches leaders how to gain respect from employees, establish trust in the work setting, develop a business model that incorporates the new diversity in the workplace and shows them how to stand out in an "e-mail and Internet environment". The book demonstrates that success and profitability are more probable when an organization employs a relational leadership model, rather than a command and control model, because all employees are engaged. Comparisons between relational and non-relational organizations are made throughout the book so leaders can see how relational leadership can be implemented through real-life examples. Anecdotes and case-studies from managers who have utilized relational leadership techniques in their organizations are also included in the book. He was inducted into the Delaware Business Leaders Hall of Fame in October 2008, one of 38 individuals?and the first not-for-profit executive?so honored among countless leaders spanning over 300 years of Delaware business history. The dewy, glowy look my boss pointed out, in particular, came from Philosophy's All-Over Cream Illuminator. I'm almost out of it since I've been wearing it nearly everyday, and it's not sold separately from the coloring book. Luckily, I found a similar product from the line that is just as great.
