| Ralph McInerny | Father Dowling author, 80 - Philadelphia Daily News Posted: 08 Feb 2010 11:14 AM PST Message from fivefilters.org: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it.
Ralph McInerny, 80, a longtime professor of philosophy and medieval studies at the University of Notre Dame and a popular mystery writer best known for his Father Dowling series of novels, died Jan. 29 at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Mishawaka, Ind., after a long illness, according to the university. A member of the Notre Dame faculty from 1955 until his retirement in 2009, Dr. McInerny gained international renown as a scholar, author, and lecturer who specialized in the works of St. Thomas Aquinas, the 13th-century theologian and philosopher. Dr. McInerny, who also wrote and lectured on ethics, philosophy of religion, and medieval philosophy, directed the university's Medieval Institute from 1978 to 1985. And from 1979 to 2006, he directed its Jacques Maritain Center, primarily an archive for the study of materials related to the 20th century French Catholic philosopher and his influence in the United States. Dr. McInerny wrote about 100 novels. He wrote more than two dozen mysteries featuring Father Dowling, which led to the 1989-91 Father Dowling Mysteries TV series. Among Dr. McInerny's other series are the Andrew Broom mysteries, the Sister Mary Teresa mysteries (under the pseudonym Monica Quill), and the University of Notre Dame mysteries. In 1993, McInerny received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention. Stained Glass, his final Father Dowling mystery, was published in October 2009. Sham Rock, his final University of Notre Dame mystery, will be published in April. - Los Angeles Times

The Work of Mathew Enoch MountOver 5,500 messages have been posted on Jesus on the Web within five years since it has been founded in May of 2005. Jesus on the Web has continuously been growing since its creation starting with only me to around 400 members five years latter. Jesus on the Web in 2009 had risen in ranking to the top 1% for all news groups recorded by Google in its three target categories. Because the popularity and work of Jesus on the Web has interested so many people, I will explain my work on Jesus on the Web (this article makes excessive links to my work), my history of making Jesus on the Web, and the challenges of moderating Jesus on the Web.The early years of Jesus on the Web was populated with membership from the vast majority of Christian clergy that loomed around the biggest industry for bringing new people to southern Illinois namely Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Jesus on the Web was also populated at the same time with students and professors of the department of philosophy as well as people from many other strong intellectual disciplines. My initial work in forming Jesus on the Web as a philosophy student and as a ordained deacon from a small town more than six hours away was to make a network of people that shared the same concerns for the intellectual and deeply spiritual nature of Christianity as an outgrowth of Judaism that I deeply felt. Since the formation of Jesus on the Web, I have struggled with many challenges from within the ranks of my news group, but I have managed to lead unification and movement in 2009-2010 to interact with Christ in a whole new way that brings about scripture based revelation and intercession for the Christian to work to build the kingdom of God.
